Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College has an anticipated opening of a Mental Health Coordinator.

The Coordinator will be the primary contact on campus for issues relating to the mental health of students. They will provide training to the campus community for recognizing and handling students in need of assistance; and provide emergency and short-term counseling to students. In addition, the Coordinator will be a member of the Advising and Counseling team and will have a regular schedule for advising students and assisting them in developing class schedules, selecting a major, and determining career and transfer needs.

 

Responsibilities:

Provide individual short-term counseling for students and make appropriate referrals as needed.

Perform assessments for at-risk students and determine the next level of care.

Coordinates activities of other mental health staff within the department.

Facilitate weekly meetings with counselors, discussing students and any counseling updates collegewide. Provide guidance and consultation for counseling staff and interns.

Create a professional development program on campus for recognizing and handling students in distress. Respond to the training needs of the RV campus community.

Work individually with instructors and staff to evaluate situations of concern and develop plans to address the situation.  

Organize case meetings as needed.

Maintain contact with outside service providers and develop referral procedures.  

Act as liaison to state groups concerned with the mental health issues of students.

Provide academic advising for new and returning students. 

Maintain a thorough knowledge of all academic programs, registration process and procedures. 

Conduct advising workshops.

Utilize the BANNER student system and other interactive technology used in the department.

Communicate with faculty, staff, and students regarding the services available through the Advising and Counseling Center.

Ensure compliance with HIPPA and FERPA standards when dealing with student mental health records.

Participate in department and College activities. 

Write department policies and procedures; participate in staff development, and represent ACS at College-wide activities, open houses, committees, and faculty meetings, as appropriate.

Carry out other duties assigned.

 

Requirements:

    Master's degree is required. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Experience in counseling a college age population.  Experience in developing professional workshops. Demonstrated willingness to assist in advising students as needed and flexibility in duties assigned.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

    Certification to supervise masters level interns Experience in mental health evaluations and assessment
