Director of St John Paul II Institute

St. John Paul II Institute

The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for a full-time Director for St. John Paul II Institute and Associate or Full Professor position in the St. John Paul II Institute. This new hire will work with the present Director and assume the duties of Director over the next year. This position reports directly to the Executive Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. Target starting date of July 1, 2022.

Summary:

The mission of the Institute is to promote the understanding of the thought and life of JP2 in the context of Polish history and culture Its programs include graduate MA and Certificate programs (on line) and an undergraduate minor. It also includes Polish studies minor.

 

The Director is responsible for

· Promoting the Institute and raising funds for its sustainability

· Recruiting and managing students and adjunct faculty

· Course development and resource acquisition

· Leading and teaching study abroad trips in Poland

· Coordinating contacts with Polish scholars and Institutions

· Cultivating contacts for fund raising efforts

· Teaching classes on John Paul II

Qualifications: PhD degree in philosophy or Theology required with expertise in the works of Karol Wojtyla and John Paul II;

A member of the Catholic Church in good standing is required.
