We are seeking a Senior Budget & Financial Analyst to work out of our headquarters in Santa Barbara on a full-time 37.5-hour per week basis. Flexible Scheduling and hybrid work opportunity. 

 

Summary

While providing support to the Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Budget and Financial Analyst (SBFA) will be responsible for assisting in budget creation, maintaining monthly reporting, and working with managers and staff to provide business reporting support. Budget responsibilities include developing and managing departmental budget, preparing monthly & quarterly financial reports, and analyzing established performance objectives and measures. This role will be integral in bringing together daily operations, management, and the financial reporting from the Colleague system into the PROPHIX financial reporting system.

 

1.  Responsible for the development, creation and publication of specialized, ad hoc, and periodic management reports and prepares periodic reviews and financial tracking and outcome reports in support of new and established programs throughout the University to assess the financial and quantitative results of such programs.

2.  Assist in annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes by coordinating with department leads and budget managers.

3.  Report, research root cause, and explain monthly variance of actuals to budget. Must be able to work well with colleagues to review actual monthly performance, compose explanations, and summarize business performance.

4.  Responsible for preparing business cases, financial and data analyses, and presentations on operational effectiveness and for a variety of University programs to determine project, program, or operational viability.

5.  Make recommendations and propose alternative solutions and scenarios for use by management.

6.  Responsible for the development of complex data and financial models to support budgetary and financial needs such as planning, forecasting, tracking, or viability assessment of campus programs and projects. 

7.  Develops end-user specialized model templates and delivers training on such models for various departments and programs on campus.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business and a minimum of three years’ experience in financial performance analysis, accounting practices, and systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA preferred. 

2.  Minimum two years’ experience using budgetary systems – PROPHIX and financial reporting system Colleague and Informer systems.

3.  Advanced knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.

4.  Skilled in identifying, collecting, and analyzing information from multiple sources.

5.  Advanced skills in effectively presenting complex finance related information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.

6.  Advanced skills in the use of multiple spreadsheet and database software tools to gather information for specialized, complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.

7.  Strong communication and interpersonal skills, service orientation, and critical thinking skills.

8.  Ability to be precise, thorough, and attentive to detail.

9.  Skilled in using organizational skills, adapting to changing priorities, and balancing multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.

10. Ability to function as a member of a team, work independently, and lead projects as required.

11. In-depths knowledge of the practices and principles of accounting and budgeting, automated financial management systems, and Windows-based applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

12. Advanced skills in analysis; methods of research, program analysis, and report writing and preparation, and modern office methods, practices, and procedures.
