Job Summary

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder collaborates with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)/Global Systems Laboratory (GSL) in Boulder, CO.

The Weather Information Systems Evolution (WISE) Section within GSL develops weather-related software, computer systems, and associated forecaster decision-making tools and applications used by numerous national and international agencies. WISE infuses advanced science and technology into innovative applications and systems for weather-related activities such as forecast operations, data visualization, and decision support services. One realm WISE has a wealth of experience in is advancing the capabilities of the second generation Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS-2). Efforts include designing and implementing new data ingest, access, and display plugins that allow users to visualize and interact with new datasets. In addition, the WISE team is leading the development of the Hazard Services Program, a multi-year effort to modernize the National Weather Service watch, warning, and advisory services and deliver various hazard-related messages under a single framework.

WISE is seeking an experienced software engineer to work with the AWIPS and Hazard Services development teams to advance the capabilities of Hazard Services and related AWIPS projects (e.g., Graphical Forecast Editor, other legacy applications).
