Oregon State University and the Extension Agricultural
Sciences & Natural Resources Program are seeking applications
for a full-time, 12-month, fixed-term Assistant Professor of
Practice position that will be based at the OSU Extension
Deschutes County Office in Redmond, Oregon, and will serve the
three-county Central Oregon Region and the Confederated Tribes of
Warm Springs. The academic home for this position will be
determined by academic discipline of the candidate in the College
of Agricultural Sciences at Oregon State University. Active

This position will support the development of sustainable agriculture in Central Oregon. This position will work broadly across the agriculture spectrum with an emphasis on agricultural plant and soil science focused on small-scale commercial cropping systems and high-value specialty crops.
As part of the Small Farms Program, this position is designed to address local agricultural needs plus contribute to and integrate with the current small farms faculty thereby increasing the position’s impact. This position will be able to draw on the expertise of the Small Farms Program team, the statewide Small Farms and Community Food Systems specialists, and other OSU faculty to bring other expertise to the Central Oregon region.
This faculty member contributes to the missions of Oregon State
University Extension Service (OSUES) and the College of
Agricultural Sciences (CAS) with a focus on agricultural systems
that enhance environmental, economic, and social health.
The overall mission of the Extension Agriculture Program is to
deliver research-based, objective, informal education to help
Oregonians solve problems, develop leadership, and manage resources
wisely. As a land grant institution committed to teaching, research
and outreach and engagement, OSU promotes economic,
social, cultural and environmental progress for the people of
Oregon, the nation and the world. CAS faculty are
committed to enhancing learner success by engaging learners through
programming appropriate for diverse audiences.
Oregon State University is committed to practicing and delivery
of tools for state-of-the-science interaction and engagement of
partners and stakeholders. This faculty member will be required to
use modern learning tools including online and hybrid classes,
employ and practice engaged scholarship, promote integration of
programs across disciplines that are demand-driven and use open
source tools that continually align with innovation and shifts in
educational program delivery.
Active and effective communication with staff and key stakeholders is critical to the success of this position and access to wireless services may be necessary.
This faculty member is expected to work with local growers and
agricultural industry to establish program priorities for
horticultural and agronomic producer needs.
This faculty member will design and deliver an innovative
extension program that responds to the applied research and
education needs related to sustainable agriculture in central
Oregon, addressing small-scale, sustainable production, and
high-value specialty crops.
