Job Description:

The Laboratory for Rehabilitation Neuroscience (lrnlab.org) at the University of Florida seeks a candidate for an NIH funded postdoctoral position focused on human neuroimaging, pain, and aging. The lrnlab conducts structural and functional brain imaging studies using functional MRI, diffusion MRI and high-density EEG. A major focus area for this position will be the characterization of the pain, cognitive, and motor networks in the brain that predict mobility decline in human aging. The primary responsibility of this position will involve data collection, data processing, and manuscript preparation. The project is part of an ongoing collaboration with the PAIN lab (Phenotyping Assessment in Neuroscience) which is also at UF and is directed by Dr. Yenisel Cruz-Almeida ( https://dental.ufl.edu/profile/cruz-almeida-yenisel/ ).

This position offers the unique opportunity to work on multi-modal neuroimaging data along with motor, cognitive, and pain testing methods. The postdoctoral fellow will work directly with Dr. Coombes, and will also collaborate with other members of the research team including physicians, clinical staff, psychologists, and statisticians to ensure smooth and successful outcomes for this project. Individuals in this position will have access to the excellent resources at UF including the Pain Research and Intervention Center for Excellence (PRICE: https://price.ctsi.ufl.edu/ ), and the advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy (AMRIS) facility ( https://amris.mbi.ufl.edu/ ), as well as interdisciplinary journal clubs and seminar series across campus.

LABORATORY ENVIRONMENT: The Laboratory for Rehabilitation Neuroscience is led by Drs. Stephen Coombes and David Vaillancourt. The laboratory is supported by the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation. Our main focus is to develop a better understanding of sensorimotor system neuroscience and neurodegenerative conditions. There is 3000 square foot of space within the laboratory supporting an EEG lab, motor unit studies, and dedicated systems for neuroimaging analyses. In addition, there is office space dedicated to the personnel working with the group and space dedicated for computing and printing, software and hardware development, and scientific meetings amongst collaborators. The laboratory is less than 1 mile from the AMRIS facility which is located in the McKnight Brain Institute where the 3T, 4.7T, and 11.T research dedicated magnets are housed.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in psychology, kinesiology, neuroscience, engineering, physiology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using AFNI, FSL, EEGlab for data analyses
  • Strong working knowledge of signal processing
  • Significant programming expertise (e.g., Matlab, Bash, Python)
  • Experience collecting data from human subjects
  • Experience with statistical analysis packages (e.g., SPSS or R)
  • Meeting project deadlines and working in a team environment
