CHAIR & ASSO/PROF

Job Description:

The University of Florida’s College of Medicine – Jacksonville (UF COM-J) invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair, Department of Anesthesiology.

The department of anesthesiology features more than 30 faculty physicians, nearly 50 allied health providers and 16 residents who provide care in a number of different environments and subspecialties. Our anesthesiologists are academic faculty of the UF COM-J, offering an anesthesiology residency and obstetric anesthesiology fellowship as part of their mission to train tomorrow's physicians.

Our faculty anesthesiologists provide a full range of inpatient and outpatient care for patients undergoing surgery, including: Ambulatory anesthesia, Cardiovascular anesthesia, Critical Care medicine, General anesthesia, Obstetrical anesthesia (including labor epidurals), Out-of-operating-room anesthesia (e.g. interventional radiology), Pain management, Pediatric anesthesia, and Regional anesthesia. In addition to hospital-based services, our physicians offer outpatient management of chronic pain at the UF Health Pain Management Center, as well as anesthetic support at the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute.

Anesthesia services are provided at UF Health Jacksonville , a 695-bed private, not-for-profit academic health center near Downtown Jacksonville affiliated with the University of Florida; and at UF Health North. UF Health Jacksonville (downtown) is the only ACS verified Level 1 trauma center in the city. Anesthesia services are provided in the 15 room main OR, a 3 room outpatient surgery center, 4 room Eye OR, two room interventional radiology hybrid suites, 4 EP/Cath labs, and a full labor and delivery suite. UF Health North is a medical campus located about 10 miles north of downtown Jacksonville that has an inpatient bed tower and an adjoining medical office building. The complex has seven operating rooms, two endoscopy suites, a labor and delivery suite and 92- beds overall. A new bed tower and expansion of the ORs at North is approved and will start within the year doubling the bed size and adding 3 more operating rooms, one of which will be a fully equipped hybrid suite. In July of 2022, UF Health Jacksonville will begin offering ambulatory surgery services in a new ambulatory surgery center (four ORs plus endoscopy suites) located east of the Downtown campus.

Founded in 1988, the University of Florida Health Science Center Jacksonville campus is home to more than 2,000 UF faculty, residents, fellows, staff and administrators. The UF COM-J is the largest of the three UF colleges — medicine, nursing and pharmacy — co-located with the UF Health Jacksonville hospital on a downtown campus that encompasses more than 10 city blocks.. The college's 16 clinical science departments house more than 440 faculty members and 380 residents and fellows. The college offers 38 accredited graduate medical education programs and 14 non-standard programs. In addition, third- and fourth-year UF medical students do rotations in Jacksonville, staying for two weeks to two months at a time during the course of the year.
