Title:  Videographer/Editor

Department:  Media Services

Organizational Relationship:  Reports to the Director of Media Services

Summary:  The Media Services videographer/editor fills an important role at the college by creating videos that help college departments and community members publicize their work and initiatives.  Videos may be promotional or instructional in nature, but must always present information in a professional, creative, and compelling manner.  This individual also works with the Video Production Manager to supervise the student worker Video Crew in producing videos.  Lastly, the position requires that the individual understand best business practices and be able to select, implement, and maintain a project management program that ensures efficiency of multiple video production projects.  This position requires demonstrable knowledge of video recording/editing/lighting equipment and procedures, creativity, flexibility, strong people and collaboration skills, the ability to work independently, and take initiative.

Work Performed: Essential Duties*

  • Works with clients, in collaboration with the Video Production Manager, to create a strategy and proposal for producing specific promotional/instructional videos to effectively meet the needs and vision for clients
  • Conducts audio/video recording sessions
  • Edits raw footage into professional, creative, compelling video that effectively communicates the necessary information (promotional videos) or clearly explains the procedure to be learned (instructional videos)
  • Reviews close-to-completion videos with clients in order to make final edits and obtain client approvals for final products
  • Plans and organizes audio/video recording sessions by obtaining required permissions for the use of various sites, scheduling the use of all required equipment, and coordinating the schedules of cast and crew
  • Works with the Video Production Manager to hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate a student worker Video Crew in the production of promotional, instructional, and archival videos
  • Establishes and maintains a project management program for the department and uses it to manage multiple video projects simultaneously
  • Works with the Director of Media Services to evaluate, streamline, and upgrade departmental procedures taking into account best business practices
  • Creates digital assessment surveys that will gather information to enable the department to improve its operation
  • Shares responsibility with the Video Production Manager for oversight of MSC equipment, including but not limited to proper operation, maintenance, transport, and storage of equipment
  • Meets weekly with the Director of Media Services to discuss projects, issues, and concerns
  • Provides technical assistance to other members of the MSC staff as needed

Special Requirements:

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including many evenings, most weekends, and some very late hours
  • Willingness and ability to climb ladders and work on catwalks, other high areas, and in close quarters; ability to comfortably lift 40 pounds

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active (or pending) membership in the First Church of Christ, Scientist and/or in a Journal-listed branch church or society of the First Church of Christ, Scientist
  • Christian Science class instruction preferred, but not required 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business and/or mass communication
  • Experience in video production and techniques, computer technology, editing aesthetics and software, and post-production effects
  • Management/supervisorial experience
  • Working knowledge of audio, video, lighting equipment
  • General understanding of best business practices, of promotion and communication methods
  • Proven ability to work independently while directing and executing video shoots; ability to interact comfortably with all subjects and diverse backgrounds, including faculty, staff, and students
