Job Summary

The Digital Marketing and Communications (MarComm) Manager reports to the Director of Digital Marketing and Communications. In collaboration with departmental colleagues and those distributed across the university, the Digital MarComm Manager creates and implements an integrated digital strategy that includes original content, live event streaming and post-streamed, repackaged content, for a wide range of university digital communication and marketing platforms. These platforms include but are not limited to university websites, blogs, social media, video, audio, marketing automation platform and e-newsletters channels -- designed to market and promote SJSU to key audiences.

The incumbent will organize and implement digital assets and publish digital content to maximize SJSU’s exposure, promote SJSU’s brand and achieve goals via digital communication channels while upholding SJSU’s web and accessibility standards. The Digital MarComm Manager supervises one or more marketing communications specialists who support specific colleges and programs and provides scheduled reports, audits and analysis related to Google Analytics, video, social media, search engine optimization, marketing campaigns, and advertising. The incumbent will champion all efforts to livestream events so as to showcase the vibrancy of the university community and will become the in-house expert and trainer to help departments and groups share their events. The Digital Marketing and Communications Manager is a member of the university’s emergency communications team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and implement digital communications/marketing strategies on various communication channels (e.g. websites, social media, blogs, video, audio, e-marketing) that supports university’s strategic goals and key initiatives.
  • Develop compelling stories, messages and visuals that attract and grow a digital audience while following SJSU’s brand standards and communication style guidelines.
  • Write original content, coordinate, edit and proofread written contributions from others and maintain quality, consistency and relevance.
  • Manage all required content (text, video, images, etc.) and provide metadata, such as keywords and short descriptions, to accompany each piece of content.
  • Work with event organizers (e.g. Special Events, Athletics, Hammer Theatre/College of Humanities and the Arts as well as other colleges, Division of Student Affairs, Division of Academic Affairs, Dr. Martin Luther King Library) to expand their audience by promoting activities and special events via live-steaming and post-event edited/repackaged video segments that engage audiences.
  • Work with Director of Digital marketing and Communications and SJSU Information Technology division to incorporate/embed streaming and social media content into website user journey so users experience the vibrancy and variety of the SJSU experience.
  • Develop e-newsletters, drip campaigns, and landing pages leveraging marketing automation software platforms (e.g. Marketo).
  • Create digital advertising marketing plans and strategies to increase brand awareness, enrollment, donor/alumni engagement, and other key university initiatives.
  • Lead campus-wide social media and streaming strategy and provide training to SJSU Campus Communicators Network; guide efforts of student assistants and campus employees in social media and live streaming best practices that advance SJSU's strategic goals.
  • Lead in the development, ideation and scheduling of social media content; manage a rich content and streaming calendar and social media guide.
  • Produce high quality, engaging, and visually interesting still photos, video images/videography, live content and edit post-event content for a variety of platforms.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Expert writing, editorial, interpersonal communication, active listening, analytical skills
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and concepts in presentation format
  • Comprehensive knowledge of web communications with the ability to develop and execute communications in evolving media to effectively promote and position the university
  • Expert in web content standards, blogging, email marketing, social media marketing and event streaming
  • Knowledge in marketing automation software platforms (e.g. Marketo) to develop but not limited to e-newsletters, drip campaigns, and landing pages
  • Knowledge in social media platforms/tools (e.g. Hootsuite, SocialSprout, Oktopost), and an understanding of audience demographics and how they use these platforms to guide content and technology (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Google, Reddit, Snapchat, Pinterest, Periscope, blogs, wikis, RSS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with best practices for live streaming via Zoom, Vimeo Live, Youtube Live, IG Live
  • Ability to produce still photos, video images/videography and live content for a variety of communications. Skills and ability with photo and video editing software (online and native applications) is necessary
  • Knowledge in data and analytics to measure impact, create metrics reports and refine strategies (e.g., Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics, various social tools.)
  • Ability to write and edit HTML and CSS
  • Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction
  • Knowledge of web usability, accessibility, browser compatibility, design, prototyping and deploying mobile-friendly, responsive websites
  • Knowledge of online and native creative applications, such as Photoshop and Premiere, and the encoding standards for optimal online delivery of multimedia content
Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training
  • Six years of administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic digital communications on websites and social media on behalf of a large organization
  • Experience with digital and social media marketing
  • Experience managing staff
  • Experience working within content management systems (CMS) to update, curate and manage digital content
  • Experience producing and editing photos, videos and live content
Compensation

Classification: Administrative Analyst/Specialist III
Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,301/month - $7,917/month
Salary Range: $5,908/month - $11,481/month
