Brief Statement of Duties
Brief Statement of Duties:
Develop and teach undergraduate courses for the Indoor Agriculture program. Course topics that may be taught and assessed include (but are not limited to): Indoor Farming Foundations, Indoor Living Environments, Innovative Growing Systems, and Future Farmers. Course delivery will be lecture and lab settings in 100 and 200 level courses, with potential future development of 300 and 400 level curricula.
Additional duties include student advising, laboratory and equipment inventory, maintenance, career placement assistance, course and curriculum development, committee assignments, coordination with alumni and potential industry donors, applied research or other scholarly activities, membership in professional organizations, and application of technology in a learning environment. The position is campus-based (in-person).
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education:
Master's Degree
Discipline / Degree Area:
Biology, with an emphasis in Plant Biology and/or Environmental Science.
Required Specialized Training/Certifications:
Teaching experience in a hydroponics and aquaponics lab which includes assembling equipment, maintaining equipment, and troubleshooting equipment issues.
Required Minimum Work Experience:
Experience teaching indoor agriculture curriculum or plant sciences. Special consideration for equivalent industry experience may be given.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
-Strong understanding of indoor growing systems and methods.
-Thorough knowledge of plant biology.
-Teaching and/or training experience at the university level
-Ability to develop new curriculum, write proposals, work on grants, etc.
-Diplomatic, cooperative, and able to work well with various stakeholders.
-Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
-Interest in retail aspects of holistic and plant-based wellness, including cannabis.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
-Work and/or experience with various indoor growing systems and associated technologies, with an emphasis in plant biology, botany, chemistry (or medicinal plant chemistry), agriculture, or similar.
-Training and/or experience with Freight Farms growing platform.
-Experience with lab environment safety, operations, and equipment maintenance.
-Experience managing a budget, program development and revisions, and program coordination.
-Experience with building and mechanical systems.
-Entrepreneurial business experience.
-Experience in holistic and plant-based wellness industries, including cannabis.
