This position is responsible for acquisitions, cataloging and processing of physical library materials for the libraries on three campuses. This position orders books and media, processes invoices, catalogs material and prepares them for shelving and use. This position also handles withdrawing material from the collections, and other responsibilities as assigned. This is a .75% FTE (30 hours / week). Working hours are at Polk Library on the Oshkosh campus. This position functions under the general supervision of the Head of Collections and Technical Services.

Responsibilities

30% A. Acquisitions of books and media

  1. Orders library materials (books and media) for Polk Library, Fond du Lac Library, and Fox Cities library.
  2. Receives and responds to requests for purchases from librarians, faculty and students.
  3. Creates purchase orders, selects vendors, receives materials, and processes invoices.
  4. Verifies accuracy of orders, monitors credits and returns.


30% B. Cataloging of library materials

  1. Performs copy-cataloging of new materials in accordance with national standards of cataloging practice.
  2. Maintains accurate holdings records in OCLC.
  3. Updates catalog records for library materials as necessary.
  4. Compiles monthly statistics for all library material added or withdrawn from the collection.


20% C. Processing new Library material

  1. Prepares all new library material for shelving and use, including identification stamps, spine labels, barcodes, security and pockets.
  2. Prepares Children’s books processing as above, with the addition of mylar covers and other processing as needed.
  3. Prepares Fond du Lac and Fox Cities materials processing as needed.


15% D. Withdrawing Library material

  1. Deletes item and holding records from the catalog for materials being withdrawn from the library collections.
  2. Deletes holdings records from OCLC for materials being withdrawn from the library collections.
  3. Recycles withdrawn materials or prepares them for library book sales.


5% E. Additional Duties

  1. Participate in library meetings, works on projects as assigned with other library staff.

  • Experience working in a library
  • Experience with an integrated library system
  • Experience with acquisitions, managing orders, purchase orders, and invoices
  • Experience with cataloging, cataloging standards, or OCLC
  • Experience with specialized library software
