Scope of Job:
The College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for an Open Rank Associate/Professor of Practice faculty position in the Department of Informatics and Engineering Systems to begin in the Fall of 2022. We seek an experienced professional with high-level of experience in industry or equivalent.

The Professor of Practice is a faculty member who integrates academic scholarship and professional practice associated with their field. Specifically, the Professor of Practice has documented experience as a practitioner in their respective field and understands the specific practical needs and applications required for graduates upon program completion. The Professor of Practice will be expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in cybersecurity, mentor student projects, and help facilitate and participate in engagement with external partners. The position is a 3-year appointment, renewable based on favorable annual evaluations and budget availability.

The Department of Informatics and Engineering Systems currently has fifteen faculty members and offers several degree programs and research opportunities in the field of Cybersecurity and Engineering Technology. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology, and a Master of Science in Information Technology. The department offers research opportunities in cybersecurity, engineering systems, and computer science applications. Our programs prepare students for careers in industry and graduate study in cybersecurity, engineering systems, and computer science. We are also interested in candidates who will expand our current faculty expertise within the broader area of cybersecurity.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates at the Assistant Professor level will be considered based on demonstrated potential to enhance teaching and effective engagement with outside partners. Candidates at the Associate Professor/Professor level will be considered for a leadership position at the Department or College level. Applicants must have earned a master’s degree or doctorate in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or other closely related field from an accredited university, or be expecting to receive the degree by the beginning of the start date. Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate is expected to have significant technical/professional experience in cybersecurity related work.

Expectations for the Professor of Practice include effective engagement with outside partners to solicit capstone projects and identify additional student opportunities, such as internships; thoughtful mentorship of students as they tackle diverse, open-ended projects and develop professional skills; help with management of the capstone course and be able to teach a wide range of core cybersecurity courses.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
