Scope of Job:
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) seeks a 3-year lecturer to start Fall 2022 to teach in its Bachelor's/Master's program in the School of Art & Design. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction in the program, advising students, and participating in scholarship activities serving the college, university or local communities as needed. UTRGV faculty are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the missions of the university, college, and program. Department Background
The School of Art and Design Faculty welcomes students to explore a wide range of media for the purpose of developing effective communication skills through the conceptual and analytical comprehension of images. We believe expression of the visual arts serves humanity. This creative endeavor promotes the development of critical observation, a strong foundation for communication skills and encourages the investigation of the natural world and the multicultural, social, and political elements of a global society, and also encourages students to explore both traditional and contemporary fields.

The UTRGV School of Art and Design has a 73,000 square foot facility (Edinburg) with the highest quality studios and labs in graphic design, sculpture, ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, digital photography, and film photography with a wet lab. The School of Art and Design also has a facility (Brownsville) with 20, 000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space with very unique 20-foot-high ceilings in all of their studios for optimum student art production in painting, ceramics, sculpture photography (digital and film), printmaking, drawing, an iMac lab for computer imaging and graphics, and a 3000 square foot outdoor open area for experimental art.



Minimum Qualifications:
The qualifications to be considered as a lecturer in 2-D & 3-D Studio include 18 graduate credits in a specific subject area and a Master’s of Fine Art.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
18 credit hours in a related studio area and experience teaching various studio and foundations courses, the ability to demonstrate strong technical skills in the teaching area, as well as use of related software specific to discipline.

Preferred Qualification:
Teaching experience is desirable, as well as ability to use technology to support teaching and learning. University-level teaching experience preferred. Preference is given to applicants willing to teach at both the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to
demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based
test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the
