 The Department of Africana Studies at the University at Albany (SUNY) seeks to appoint a full-time (100% FTE, 10-month service), tenure-track assistant professor who specializes in African American History. The department is particularly interested in faculty with expertise in pre-20th century African American history. Additionally, the successful candidate will develop introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses with capacity for large enrollments of diverse students and graduate seminars. All University at Albany faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The position will begin September 1, 2022.

 To qualify for this position, applicants should have earned a Ph.D. in History, (or a related field such as Africana Studies, African American Studies or American Studies) with a specialization in African American History, from a U.S. Department of Education accredited university or from an internationally recognized accrediting organization. They must possess the ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses on African American history and related topics in general and be able to teach a two-semester graduate survey of African American history, with the first semester covering the American colonial period to the Civil War, and the second semester focusing on l865 to the present.  The successful candidate will be willing to engage with institutional student success initiatives and to teach a culturally diverse population, able to demonstrate commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda appropriate to the discipline and can demonstrate interest in and record of success in public engagement.

 The following qualifications are preferred: knowledge of the African Diaspora outside of the United States, a record of teaching African American and U.S. history courses at the college level, and peer-reviewed scholarly publications.
