New Jersey Center for Science, Technology and Mathematics (NJCSTM)

Human Genetics/Genomics - NJCSTM is seeking outstanding candidates for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank to provide support to the department in both teaching and research in the area of Human Genetics and Genomics. A primary role of the faculty member is to support the Genetic Counseling Graduate Program (GCGP). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: teaching graduate courses in Human Molecular Genetics, Genomics, Human Cytogenetics and Translational Medicine; assisting GCGP students in M.S. thesis research; and supporting future graduate degree(s) in Diagnostic Molecular Science via both research and teaching. The faculty member will be expected to: contribute to research, teaching and service in the integrated STEM program; establish an active research program; seek extramural funding; mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and actively participate in strengthening and expanding connections with local businesses for internship and externship opportunities for students.

Qualifications: Ph.D., MD, MS in Genetic Counseling/Human Genetics or equivalent degree in the area of Genetics & Genomics, Molecular Genetics, Genetic Counseling or similar with a strong background in human clinical applications and a minimum of two years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required.

Positions are ten-month, full-time, tenure-track assignments at the rank of Assistant Professor effective for the Fall 2022 semester, unless otherwise indicated. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Courses may be taught at the Union campus, Kean Ocean, Kean Skylands or other locations. Faculty positions located in the Nathan Weiss Graduate College may require evening hours for graduate course assignments.

All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and an on-going program of research and publication or creative and performance activity. Participation in curriculum development, student advisement and service at the departmental/school, college, university and community level is also required. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. Proficiency in the Learning Management System, Blackboard and Online Learning Pedagogy is required, consistent with University guidelines. Kean may offer free voluntary Blackboard workshops to otherwise qualified applicants.
