The salary range will be from $80,000 - $90,000 per year.

This position is a Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position in the CSU, and serves at the pleasure of the President.

The CSU enjoys a generous benefits program with employer paid life insurance ($100,000), as well as health, dental, and vision insurance with the monthly premium largely paid by the CSU. Additionally, we offer a broad range of other benefits which includes dependent and health care reimbursement accounts, tuition fee waiver, 401k, 457 and 403(b) plans.

The CSU belongs to the CalPERS retirement plan in which medical and dental insurance continues in qualified retirement.

The CSU has 14 paid holidays and the position earns 24 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave per year.

The Associate Director of Annual Giving is a member of the California State University, East Bay Advancement team. Along with the Director of Annual Giving, this person is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing a comprehensive Annual Giving program that will increase visibility, participation in, and financial support to Cal State East Bay. This position includes both front-line fundraising and coordination of a direct mail and e-solicitation program for specific departments/programs on campus. The position works in an environment dedicated to advancing the mission of Cal State East Bay. The Director of Annual Giving provides daily supervision to the Associate Director of Annual Giving.


The Associate Director of Annual Giving, works as a front-line fundraiser soliciting high-end annual gifts between $1,000 and $25,000 and qualifying them for major gift portfolios. They will qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors as appropriate and manage a prospect list of 50-75 individuals capable of making annual gifts, emphasizing upgrading current donors and generating gifts from new prospects. Of particular importance, this position will serve as the liaison for programs focused on social justice and student success initiatives, which include Pioneers for H.O.P.E., Renaissance Scholars, Center for Community Engagement and Center for Sport and Social Justice.

Collaborate on all aspects of the annual giving (face-to-face, direct mail and online fundraising) plan, coordinate and implement campaigns to help broaden the University’s donor base and increase overall participation and financial support.

  • Monitor monthly progress of annual fund results compared to financial goals.
  • Analyze effectiveness of various fundraising methods and messages; adapt future appeals accordingly.
  • Create and implement strategic fundraising based on donor segmentation and research.

Work with campus community members to create a comprehensive Faculty/Staff Giving program. Recruit campus volunteer solicitors; develop program recognition items and events including the annual donor thank you luncheon.

Create a Senior Class Giving program to help current students understand the importance of their philanthropic support after graduation.

  • Work with student leaders and departments across campus to plan and market events (such as the Senior Class Gift, and Day for East Bay).

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in prospect identification, relationship building, solicitation, and stewardship. Ability to develop relationships with multiple constituents and solicit gifts.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a complex calendar of solicitations by targeted constituency and fundraising strategy.
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally, 4-6 visits per month (when appropriate).
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal communications, engaged listening, negotiation, and motivation.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population, including faculty, staff, donors and potential donors.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office software.

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

    • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database system as an end user.


    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan, as appropriate), that may include, but is not limited to: criminal records check, verification of academic credentials, licenses, certificates, credit history, professional references and/or verification of work history is required for employment.  Cal State East Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Unsatisfactory results may also affect the continued employment of current Cal State East Bay employees who were conditionally offered the position.
