Genetics Chief

West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics seeks a Geneticist qualified for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank to serve as Chief of our growing division and program. The primary practice location is Morgantown, WV.

Duties: The successful candidate will practice in the areas of adult and pediatric genetics, and will lead an expanding group. Concomitant with the opening of our new Children’s Hospital, we are investing in new perinatal and cancer genetics programs and the chief will be asked to guide these initiatives. Clinical responsibilities will include patients of all ages with duties that entail a mix of inpatient consults, telemedicine, and clinics. In addition to providing administrative leadership and excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in the teaching of medical students and residents.

Qualifications: applicants must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible to obtain a state medical license. Candidates must have completed an accredited genetics residency, and be board certified in medical genetics. Additional training in Biochemical genetics is preferred. For appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, a demonstrated track-record of leadership, excellent communication skills, and publications in high-impact journals are required. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
With an anticipated opening in 2022, our new 150 bed Children’s Hospital will have a full suite of pediatric operating rooms, cardiac catheterization lab/interventional radiology, and GI-endoscopy with dedicated pediatric anesthesia staff. The hospital will include 34 pediatric beds, 54 NICU beds, 26 PICU beds, Heart Center, and a dedicated Cancer Center. WVU Medicine Children’s is a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, with plans to become Level 1, as it is for adults currently. There will also be a Birthing Center including a 30-bed obstetrical unit and maternal-fetal medicine clinic. J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in West Virginia with a pediatric cardiac surgery program, the only epilepsy monitoring unit in the state equipped to serve children, and the only hospital in the state to receive Magnet status for nursing excellence.
