UI/UX Designer
About the Opportunity
Northeastern University is seeking a talented UX/UI Designer to create beautiful, engaging, and interactive experiences. It is critical that you have excellent taste and a creative mind that never stops producing innovative ideas and never runs out of energy to execute them. We believe inspiration can come from anywhere and experimenting with innovative ideas is a good thing. You must have strong communications skills and be versed in the latest design trends for all devices (mobile and web). You must be able to maintain the consistency of the brand. You will inspire innovative web and design trends and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You will be responsible for monitoring user experience and ensuring that websites, software programs, and products are easy to use. You lead a student UX/UI program that performs usability tests on software products or websites features to ensure functionality and a seamless user experience. To ensure that essential services are provided to the university community, the employee will be required to work outside their regular working hours as needed. This position is eligible for remote work.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in a design related field
Experience
- 3+ years' experience in digital design
- Experience with mobile app design and development
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
- Comfortable designing within iOS and Android native, Web
Responsive, additional platform guidelines
- Wireframing and schematics, prototyping were useful and
necessary (Zeplin, Figma, Miro)
- Composed in high-pressure situations with a “big-picture”
perspective on how to handle those
- Independently produce original work that consistently wows the
university and our team
- Great taste and love for beautiful design
- Strong attention to detail
- Have a Human Centered Design approach in solving user needs
with deep customer empathy
- Ability to explain and sell design decisions to
stakeholders
- Familiar with ADA compliance
- Familiarity with Agile project methodology and tools (Scrum,
Jira, Confluence)
- Be a role model for an open, honest, and inclusive approach to
problem solving
- Strong cross group collaboration and communication
skills
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Creating interactive environments that convey information,
engage, and excite users of all kinds and on all devices
- Conceptualizing and designing engaging interactive digital
environments
- Effectively deliver exceptional work for clients
- Delivers on time and on schedule
- Maintain integrity of Northeastern's design process and
brand
- Conviction to champion your perspective while successfully
collaborating with other points of view
- Identify and plan UX deliverables for upcoming products and
enhancements
- Engage in cross-product design and development efforts, with
responsibilities that span the entire product lifecycle, from
preliminary user research, visual design, and front-end
development
- Present designs to users, stakeholders, and internal teams,
collecting and incorporating design feedback for future
iterations
- Ensure a clean, consistent, appropriately branded experience
across all products by contributing to UX Style Guides, CSS/SASS
libraries, and UI component libraries - Prototype your ideas and
create production-ready front-end implementations of your designs
using HTML, CSS, and JS
- Create mockups, Miro boards and visual assets for use across
teams.
- Manage visual assets and design for iOS, Android, and web
projects.
- Collaborate with product, engineers, and leadership to create a
cohesive experience across our products.
- Lead a student UX/UI program that performs usability tests on
software products or websites features to ensure functionality and
a seamless user experience. Familiar with Postman and Swagger
UI.
- Follow university and ITS processes and policies as
required.
- Communication requires corrective action, as
necessary.
- Act as the functional area expert on how to handle
exceptions.
- Provide positive insight and encourage collaboration and
consistency.
- Escalate potential issues to the D. Studio Manager.
- Make recommendations for change, more efficient processes, and
policies.
- Stay up to date on the latest trends/tool/and techniques in
design development.
