About SUNY Oneonta:

The Department of Communication and Media at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies. We seek a teacher-scholar who has teaching experience and/or scholarly expertise in Environmental and Organizational Communication, approaching these areas of inquiry from critical/cultural, qualitative, performative, and/or rhetorical perspectives. The appointment begins Fall 2022 and is part of a cohort of eight new faculty who have a strong interest in one or more aspects of Sustainability, as defined in the UN initiative around the Sustainable Development Goals. The Department of Communication and Media offers two majors - Communication Studies and Media Studies - with nearly 500 majors, 15 full-time faculty, and 15 part-time faculty members. The Department houses a community of thriving teachers, scholars, artists, and practitioners across the fields of Communication Studies and Media Studies. Students working toward a degree in Communication Studies take courses in intercultural communication, relational communication, organizational and small group communication, and rhetoric. Our students graduate with a greater appreciation and understanding of the vital role communication plays in social change, and what it means to engage the world as participatory global citizens. Job Description:

Duties include but not limited to: Teaching courses in the Communication Studies' introductory and intermediate core curriculum; teaching and developing courses in the candidate's areas of expertise that complement the College's sustainability goals and the Communication Studies major; engaging in scholarship in the candidate's area of expertise; serving on departmental and college-wide committees; student advisement; continuing professional development; and participating in cross-disciplinary initiatives. This position requires teaching 21 credits per year.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications: Terminal degree (ABD considered; completion required by date of appointment) in Communication or closely related field with a focus in critical/cultural, qualitative, performative, and/or rhetorical approaches to Environmental and Organizational Communication; evidence of inclusive excellence in undergraduate teaching, dedication to scholarship, and academic interests that align with the Department's commitments to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

Preferred: Ability to expand the department's course offerings on the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, and environmental justice; expertise in social media; experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or service with diverse and/or multicultural population.
