Position Summary

The Institute for Myelin and Glia Explorationis seeking a technician to assist with daily laboratory activities. This is a junior level assistant/research position in direct technical support of specific projects. The selected candidate is expected to perform a variety of routine tasks under the direct supervision of the senior laboratory personnel.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Performing DNA extraction, PCR and gel electrophoresis
  • Contribute to management of transgenic mouse colony
  • Caretaking, breeding, and genotyping of mice.
  • Preparing common solutions
  • Maintaining lab inventory, purchasing
  • Cleaning and sterilization of material, coordinating disposal of hazardous waste
  • Assist in primary cell culture
  • Performing mycoplasma testing
  • Processing of tissue for histology and biochemical analysis
  • Bright field, fluorescent and electron microscopy
  • Data analysis and quantification
  • Studying multiple sclerosis, under the supervision of a postdoctoral fellow and the laboratory PI.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Required education in the field of Biology
  • Previous experience in scientific laboratory
  • Experience directly related to cellular or molecular biology
  • Solid knowledge of cellular and molecular biology techniques, preferably neuroscience
  • Positive attitude and interest in research/science
  • Strong attention to detail and methodology in SOPs
  • Some weekend work will be necessary, approximately 1 hour/weekend

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Previous experience in PCR and other routine techniques
  • Experience working with laboratory animals
  • Experience in tissue processing and microscopy
  • Experience in cell culture

Physical Demands

Position may require manual dexterity, lifting and moving materials and/or equipment up to 10lbs.
Salary Range
$30,000 – $40,000
