Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION:

McKillop Library seeks a highly service-oriented, creative Systems & Technology Librarian to maintain and develop digital and technology services to support research, teaching, and learning at Salve Regina University. Working with other librarians, staff, and campus partners, the incumbent will envision and implement new technology services while continuing to evaluate and enhance the library's online interfaces. With an emphasis on supporting emerging digital scholarship, the candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in providing consultative or instructional support to students and faculty. This position reports to the library director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage, administer, maintain, and ensure the interoperability of the library's:
    • integrated library system, Worldshare Management Services (making changes to modules in collaboration with the access services and cataloguing/acquisitions departments)
    • discovery service, Worldshare Discovery (in collaboration with the research and instruction department)
    • website
    • digital repositories, Digital Commons and JSTORForum (in collaboration with the University Archivist and Special Collections Librarian)
    • other software solutions, e.g.: Springshare Suite, SnagIt, etc. in collaboration with relevant library departments
  • In collaboration with the Department of Information Technologies, perform initial troubleshooting of library hardware and software issues, including patron support
  • Collect and analyze statistics related to library's web services (website, digital repositories, Springshare Suite)
  • Support faculty and students engaged in scholarly research to be shared through digital scholarship tools
  • Identify, customize, implement and evaluate current and emerging technologies
  • Serve as the library's liaison to the University's information technology department
  • Serve as the library's liaison to OCLC and other library technology services
  • Serve on library, consortial, and University committees
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve the community and collect front-line information about library interfaces by serving regular hours at the library's information desk, providing assistance via live and remote reference services
  • Evening and weekend work may occasionally be required
  • Incumbent may provide information literacy instruction, depending on library need and candidate interest

Requirements:
  • Experience with library management systems, computer networks, Internet protocols and web servers
  • Knowledge of current and recent trends in search and discovery systems, as well as understanding of user search behavior in academic settings
  • Demonstrated experience with web development and accessibility standards
  • Knowledge of trends and developments in digital scholarship and enthusiasm for creative and forward-thinking approaches to using digital tools and systems to accomplish scholarly goals
  • Strong commitment to providing excellent and inclusive services to a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and community members
  • Strong evidence of commitment to improving users' experience and knowledge of user experience design
  • Demonstrated excellence working in a highly service-oriented environment
  • Experience in introducing and implementing new IT solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and balance multiple projects and priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • ALA-accredited MLS degree
