Job/Department Summary:

Working independently, under general supervision, incumbent is responsible for providing the full range of skilled plumbing work, as outlined in the CSU Classification and Qualification Standard (Standard) for the Plumber Series, including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems, to ensure a clean, safe and attractive learning environment. Position makes decisions based upon sound maintenance practices. Incumbents in this classification also may provide instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.

Some positions may be assigned water treatment duties that involve monitoring, testing and chemically treating potable and/or non-potable water systems. This work requires the incumbent to possess the applicable water treatment certification.

Facilities Management and Services (FMS) is a large, multifaceted department consisting of approximately 200 employees working various shifts and providing diverse administrative and operational services campus wide.

Mandatory Vaccinations:

The CSU requires faculty, staff, and students who are accessing campus facilities to be immunized against COVID-19 or have received a medical or religious exemption. Selected candidates should be prepared to comply with this requirement.

Preferences:

Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
  • Bilingual
  • Journeyman Certificate
  • Five years of demonstrated journey-level plumbing experience
Required Education and Experience:

The knowledge and skills listed above would typically be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumber’s apprenticeship program.

Salary and Benefits Information:

$5,742 - $7,414 per month / $68,904 - $88,968 annually (New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning of the salary range)
