Department Summary

This is a wonderful opportunity to join the Telecom and Network Services (TNS) that is part of the Technology Operations Department. TNS is responsible for the deployment, management, and maintenance of the network infrastructure as it relates to data (wired and wireless), telephony and security. TNS oversees vendors performing wiring and hardware installations. Works closely with other ITS teams as well as other departments to promote the efficient use of the University network and resources. TNS follows the University's best practices to build and support student academic success and retention and assist in meeting strategic objectives for persistence and timely graduation of all the student population.

Job Summary

Under minimal supervision from the Director of Technology Operations and Customer Support, the incumbent will provide network analyst support to the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses. The incumbent will work with the Lead Network Analyst and others in the department to ensure the enterprise systems operate seamlessly across the university.

The following typical responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for analyzing, installing, maintaining, testing, replacing, and recommending solutions to the IT infrastructure's wired and wireless network equipment.
  • Take effective action to ensure a stable and high-performance network in a multi-vendor network environment.
  • Configure, deploy, maintain, repair, troubleshoot, network and telecommunications equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining PCI compliance.
  • Physical installation of network equipment (rack, stack and patch).
  • Make system-programming changes to network equipment and systems.
  • Advise on basic network design.
  • Provide cost estimation for network related projects.
  • Proactively monitors ticket status for all assigned tickets and follows up with users and other technicians to ensure timely resolutions of outstanding issues
  • Evaluate new emerging technologies for adaptation and implementation in the campus network infrastructure.
  • Assist in setting networking security standards and security architecture designs along with policies.
  • Maintain the documentation of current and future network designs, change control, inventory, and other documentation, of installed networking equipment.
  • Maintaining CSUSB networking standards.



Employment Status: Full-time, temporary, "exempt".

Work Schedule
  • Generally, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some weekends and evenings may be required.



Key Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical, information network systems.
  • Working knowledge of a basic knowledge of telecommunications and transmission technologies, including network architecture, topologies, protocols, programming applications and interfaces appropriate to the defined work area and assignments.
  • Ability to work closely with other teams both within ITS and other departments at the university.
  • Experience with configuring, managing, and troubleshooting network technologies & protocols such as VLANs, SNMP, NTP, SSH, VPN.
  • Experience managing firewalls and/or network ACLs.
  • Clear, positive, solution-oriented communication skills to translate user needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Experience with packet capture and other similar network analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP network protocol
  • Analyze and make recommendations for network standardization.
  • Great customer service skills.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field, AND two (2) years of responsible experience as a Network Analyst or in a related field. A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 years professional experience in provisioning and managing voice/data services in large scale network infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical and planning skills
  • Aruba/HP/Alcatel certification/experience (wireless certification is preferred)
  • Next Gen Firewall certification/experience
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes.
  • Proficiency in hardware and software technologies
  • Ability to pay attention to details and to meet deadlines and milestones
  • Training in network (CATS/6) cabling desired.
  • Higher education and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.



Salary

Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,372 - $5,860 per month

Classification Range: $4,372 - $10,792 per month
