Saint Mary's College seeks to hire a per-course adjunct faculty member to teach PHED 006T-01 Tennis in Spring 2022.

Tuesdays & Thursdays: 11:30am-12:35pm

This introductory course will provide students with instructional techniques and practice sessions designed to teach them the fundamental skills of the game of tennis. Students will learn to apply the basic strokes (forehand, backhand, serve) to competitive playing situations while also learning the rules, playing procedures, and basic strategies of both singles and doubles play. As they master the basic skills, students will be introduced to groundstroke and service variations, lobs, smashes, volleys, drop shots, and more advanced tactics.

  • Provide supervision and instruction for a Beginning/Intermediate Tennis class for 2 hours per week for the semester
  • Provide an instructional plan that includes health and safety considerations, playing rules and procedures, equipment, scoring, playing strategies, and tactics
  • Provide a progression of basic skills instruction supplemented with developmental activities and drills for students of different skill levels
  • Provide for the testing of skills in a voluntary competitive environment
  • Provide a class environment focused on learning and skill development which leads to an appreciation of the sport and lifelong participation.

  • Bachelor's degree required, enrollment in Master's degree program or Master's degree preferred
  • Experience teaching physical activity classes, preferably Tennis
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification
