Editor - Partnerships & Engagement

About the Opportunity

Experience Magazine is looking for a creative, resourceful, media-savvy project manager and engagement editor to help us share our storytelling with the world. You'll join a small, experienced team of journalists who are committed to creating a high-quality magazine and extending our brand and reach.

Published by Northeastern University, Experience is a general-interest magazine about the power of experience at the intersection of humanity and technology. We publish several print issues per year, along with weekly new content at


  • Develop and execute creative strategies to share the Experience brand, including but not limited to social media and SEO, establishing a corporate partnerships program, collaborating across university departments, and launching an events and awards series.
  • Work with the Experience editorial team to develop, test, and analyze stories and multimedia content. Participate in editorial process for pitches, writing display copy, and copyediting.
  • Monitor, summarize, and identify areas of success and growth in website traffic, newsletter engagement, and social media audience-building.
  • Write and produce social media content, executive presentations, and external marketing kits.
  • With design director, assist in website maintenance, content management, and digital engagement mechanisms.
  • With external vendor contacts, project manage the print production, mailing and university distribution of the print magazine.
  • With colleagues in University Advancement, Alumni Relations, and Communications, leverage the alumni, donor, and Northeastern community audience through magazine distribution, events, and other editorial projects.
  • Occasionally write and edit stories, newsletters, and external communications.

Minimum Requirements
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably at a media publication
  • A bachelor's degree
  • Relentless curiosity and a sense of humor
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well with a team
  • Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple short- and long-term projects simultaneously
  • Firm grasp of media trends
  • Eye for detail and deep understanding of how to tailor communications based on specific audience
  • Proactive approach to and demonstrated experience building relationships in complex organizations or institutions

Preferred background
  • Experience with Wordpress, Mailchimp, Adobe Suite, Microsoft and Google Suite
  • Knowledge and facility with SEO and marketing strategy
  • A network of contacts in media nationwide
