Summary:

Under the supervision of the President, the Vice President for Student Affairs plans, develops and implements the University's overall programs providing for the general welfare and personal development of students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the President and supervises the work of the Associate Vice-President for Student Affairs and the Assistant Vice-President for Enrollment Management.
  • Serves as a member of the President's principal administrative council.
  • Serves as the university's chief student development and student services officer.
  • Designs and develops plans for the overall student services program that coordinates with the overall strategic plan of the University.
  • Reviews and recommends budgets for the operation of all student service units at the University.
  • Ensures the adequacy of student service programs involving enrollment management, housing, counseling, career planning and placement, student activities, and health services.
  • Recommends the appointment of all people employed in the student services program, orients them to their overall responsibilities, and ensures the adequacy of their in-service training.
  • Evaluates the performance of all persons employed in the student services program, and recommends their renewal or nonrenewal.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of each student service program in meeting the goals and objectives outlined in the University's strategic plan.
  • Prepares appropriate publications describing the student services program, and interprets all regulations pertaining to the program to students and parents.
  • Supervises the formulation of all general policies pertaining to the social and extra-curricular activities of the University.
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 

 Requirements:

Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):

A Doctorate degree in Guidance and Counseling, Student Personnel Administration, Psychology or other related field and five years of experience in administering student service programs at the college or university level.

Essential Functions:

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices involved in organizing and administering a university-level student services program.
  • Considerable knowledge of the requirements for operating successful counseling and placement programs.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate student service staff and to be sensitive to the needs of students. 
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with many different kinds of people.
