Position

The Department of Family and Human Services at John Brown University (www.jbu.edu/majors/family-and-human-services/) seeks a full-time faculty member with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and the integration of Christian faith to begin by July 1, 2022. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching a blend of introductory and upper-division courses in several areas related to the field of family science and human services. Additional opportunities could include designing/developing coursework in one’s area of expertise or specialization for the ‘selected topics’ rotation of courses in the department. Other responsibilities include academic advising and mentoring students, recruiting for the major, and service on university committees.

Program

The Department of Family and Human Services resides within the College of Education and Social and Behavioral Sciences and offers courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science. Its mission is to promote the spiritual, personal, and relational well-being of its students and to equip them to serve as professionals and advocates within family life and helping professions. The Family and Human Services curriculum follows the guidelines of the National Council on Family Relations and trains students to process everyday issues through a theoretical and practical paradigm. Students in this program often find employment in the human services fields and the degree provides an excellent foundation for graduate programs in marriage and family therapy, professional counseling, social work, and other related fields.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree or higher in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Human Development, or a closely related field (or a Master’s degree in an unrelated field combined with relevant professional experience)
  • A commitment to teaching undergraduate courses
  • A commitment to the integration of the Christian faith and teaching
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students
  • Must be a committed follower of Jesus Christ

Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctorate degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Human Development, or a closely related field
  • Evidence of continuous learning (e.g., scholarship, certifications, licenses)
  • Experience teaching undergraduate students and/or relevant professional experience in related fields
  • Demonstrated experience with diverse populations

Salary

A competitive salary exists which will be commensurate with training and/or experience. In addition, JBU offers a comprehensive benefits package including 403(b) retirement plan, medical and dental insurance, tuition remission, leave related to the birth or adoption of a child, and moving expenses.
