Art & Design Art Education Assistant Professor
Position Category: Faculty - Tenure Track (FT)
Summary:
The Art & Design Department at Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Art Education to begin August 2022. We are seeking a visionary and collaborative art educator who will be responsible for: teaching undergraduate courses in art education, mentoring students, supervising student teaching, overseeing the Art Education area, and working with the School of Education on assessment. The successful candidate may be asked to develop new online or remote courses in art education. Further duties include engaging in continuing scholarship and professional activities, participating in program reviews and curriculum development, and participating in service at the departmental, school, and university levels.
The candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, as well as to teaching diverse learners and modeling inclusive practices. Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with an MA in studio art with extensive experience in art education practices and methods.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of art education theory and pedagogy
- Knowledge in art practices, theory, and history
- Knowledge in art education assessment
- Knowledge in student management, motivation and evaluation techniques
Skills:
- Skills in teaching art education and related practices
- Skills in art education theory and pedagogy
- Excellent communication skills
- Skills in interpersonal relationships, problem-solving and decision-making
Abilities:
- Ability to relate well with students and colleagues.
- Ability to evaluate student work effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to apply appropriate technology in classroom teaching.
- Ability to supervise student teachers
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Education: A Ph.D or Ed.D with a focus on art education.
K-12 teaching experience. Experience in teaching secondary methods. Experience with art education student teaching supervision. Experience teaching/working in linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse settings. Participation in local, state, and national professional organizations.
