Tenure Track Faculty in Sustainable Aviation

The Department of Aerospace Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track faculty position starting in Fall 2022. The position is intended for the rank of Assistant Professor, although exceptional applicants at more senior ranks may also be considered. This position will be based in Aerospace Engineering, and is one of several new tenure-track positions created under the Consortium for Integrated Energy Systems (CIES) that is co-funded through Penn State's Institutes of Energy and the Environment (IEE).

Outstanding candidates are sought with new, creative visions for, and experience in, sustainable aviation, which may include, for example, novel energy systems for aviation, including propulsion, sustainable aviation fuels and energy storage, novel aircraft appropriate for new energy systems, the relationship of aircraft technologies to the energy supply chain, and/or modeling the atmospheric or climate impacts of aviation. All CIES faculty have outstanding opportunities for collaboration through this and other consortia, the Institutes of Energy and Environment, and the Materials Research Institute

Applicants should articulate their plans to setup a research program attracting outside research sponsorship, contributing to the aerospace industry, and resulting in published research findings. Further, applicants should describe how, as part of this position's focus on sustainable aviation, they collaborate with the disciplinary strengths already in place both within the department and with IEE faculty outside the department in support of cross-disciplinary collaborative research. Further, reflecting Penn State's commitment to our educational mission, candidates should articulate their interests and experience in supporting undergraduate and graduate programs through teaching and advising.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in aerospace engineering or a related field by the start date. The search committee is already reviewing applications as they are received; responses received before February 21st are assured full consideration, and the search will remain open until the position is filled. Applicants should submit electronically a single pdf file containing: a cover letter, the names and addresses of four references, a full curriculum vitae with a complete list of publications, separate statements of research, teaching interests, and commitment towards diversity, equity and inclusion. Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. Inquiries can be sent to Amy Pritchett (apritchett@psu.edu), Professor and Head of Aerospace Engineering.
