Job Description:
The CyberRange
Engineer is a member of the Leahy Center team. This position
is responsible for providing next-level support to Leahy Center
CyberRange clients, faculty, and staff. This position will work to
ensure the security and efficiency of the CyberRange environment.
The CyberRange Engineer is required to perform occasional off-hours
work during nights and weekends both for urgent issues as well as
for maintenance that is required outside of business hours.
This position is responsible for the technical support of the CyberRange, responsible for the CyberRange network and system infrastructure including physical and logical topologies. Implements and maintains server operating systems for both special projects as well as critical infrastructure services such as DNS and DHCP. Develops scripts and other techniques to automate tasks. Analyzes and resolves problems that may arise during the course of normal operations. The CyberRange Engineer reports directly to the Manager of CyberRange Services.
Experience providing an infrastructure with high availability requirements beyond standard business hours is preferred. Knowledge of technology resiliency, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning is essential. Analyzes and resolves problems that may arise during the course of normal operations. Provides upper-level technical support for complex issues.
This position is a 1-year temporary position based on external funding.
Key Responsibilities
- Senior Network Administration
- Designs, implements and maintains physical and logical network topology.
- Monitors internal network and internet connectivity performance and health. Establishes and maintains vendor relationships in support of local and outsourced services.
- Researches new technologies, strengthens knowledge of existing technologies and conducts high level planning for technology platforms and paths.
- Senior System Administration
- Designs, implements, archives and maintains system infrastructures and services
- Installs, configures and maintains mission-critical servers. Establishes and maintains vendor relationships in support of local and outsourced services.
- Researches new technologies, strengthens knowledge of existing technologies, and conducts high-level planning for technology platforms and paths.
- Develops technologies and processes to automate technical tasks.
- Provide advanced-level technical support for all CYberRange related work.
- Provide advanced-level technical support on issues not resolved by student teams.
- Establish policies and procedures for use by the CyberRange students
- Create and implement policies and procedures for the CyberRange team.
- Train CyberRange team.
Requirements:
- Experience in Systems Administration, Cybersecurity, or Information Assurance.
- 2+ years of experience working in system or network administration role.
- Hands-on experience in networks, devices and protocols
- Proven success on research projects; ex blogs, publications, etc.
- 2+ years of experience working in Systems Administration, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fields.
- Working knowledge of security protocols and procedures.
- Solid Windows operating system and server application skills.
- Solid knowledge of virtualization technologies including either HyperV or VMWare
- Experience working with Linux.
- Ability to work well independently as well as on teams
- Strong knowledge in scripting and automation
- Skilled in server room operations; networking, cable management, ISCSi.
- Employee must be able to lift 50 lbs.
