Dean of the School of Science

Manhattan College seeks a Dean of the School of Science who will be the principal champion for innovative vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the School and its academic programs.

Manhattan College, located in the residential Riverdale section of the Bronx in New York City, is recognized for excellence in providing a distinctively engaging educational experience grounded in its Catholic and Lasallian commitment to education as both a search for wisdom and a means to contribute to the greater good of the human family. With an enrollment of 3,159 undergraduate and 528 graduate students, Manhattan College has enhanced and expanded its reputation for excellence chiefly by building on its core strengths: its Lasallian Catholic heritage, its location as a residential campus in New York City, and its ability to offer, in a medium-sized and person-centered college setting, an extraordinarily broad range of disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and co-curricular opportunities.

The School of Science enrolls 307 undergraduate and 24 graduate students and offers challenging majors in natural science, technology, and math within its five departments of Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. The School’s 48 full-time faculty and eight staff members pride themselves on developing well-rounded scientists who value compassion as highly as innovation. To these ends, each academic program includes a core curriculum with courses in humanities, natural science, and behavioral and social science.

Reporting to the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, and serving on the Council of Deans, the Dean of the School of Science is the School’s chief academic and administrative officer. The next Dean will bring:

• Significant academic administrative experience;
• A strong commitment to the College’s mission, values, and Lasallian heritage; and
• A record of teaching, scholarship, and service that exhibits an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and student and faculty success.

An earned doctorate and eligibility for appointment at the rank of full professor, with tenure, in one of the School’s five departments is required.
