The University of Southern Maine (USM) announces a national search for their next President and Academic Search is honored to assist in their efforts. USM's next President will be an inspiring leader who builds partnerships and collaborations with internal and external constituencies. An enthusiastic and effective communicator, USM's President will be an active listener and supporter of shared governance at USM and within the System. Focused on the evolution of USM's brand and competitiveness, the next President will ensure alignment of USM's programs and activities within the overarching mission, values, and ongoing strategic plans and initiatives of the University of Maine System.

USM is at the heart of Maine's most exciting metropolitan region—from Portland's lively Old Port and growing employers, to Lewiston's vibrant arts district, to Gorham's friendly village center. The University of Southern Maine is known for its academic excellence, student focus, affordability, and outstanding career preparation with internships that take advantage of its location in the economic, cultural, and entertainment heart of northern New England. With just under 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students, USM faculty members educate future leaders in the liberal arts and sciences, engineering and technology, health and social services, education, business, law, and public service.

USM's President serves as the chief administrative and academic officer of USM, overseeing all aspects of operations within the approved mission of USM. The President reports directly to the Chancellor of the University of Maine System, Dannel Malloy, and implements the policies and procedures set forth by the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees. The President is charged with a set of traditional responsibilities enumerated by the Board of Trustees. A complete list of challenges, opportunities, and preferred qualifications of the next President can be found in the position profile located here - https://academicsearch.org/open-searches-public/.

Applications, nominations, and inquiries can be sent to USMPresident@academicsearch.org by the preferred application date of February 21, 2022.
