President

The Skagit Valley College Board of Trustees invites applications and nominations for the position of President of Skagit Valley College (SVC), a comprehensive community college serving Skagit, Island, and San Juan counties in northwest Washington state. The president reports to a five-member board, who are appointed by the governor of Washington state. SVC seeks a visionary leader who is passionate about the community college mission, committed to equity and inclusion, serving an increasingly diverse community of students, faculty, and staff, and who is a forward-thinking collaborator. The SVC community values a president who embodies the College's Guiding Principles of Respect, Integrity, Open and Honest Communication, Collaboration, and Compassion. The successful candidate will be equity-minded, passionate about the mission of a comprehensive community college, and committed to the College's core themes of Equity in Access, Equity in Achievement, and Equity in Community.

Skagit Valley College is nestled within a unique bioregion of agricultural farmlands, temperate forests, and pristine shorelines within western Washington state and serves approximately 7,000 students each quarter at one of its two campuses and three centers: Mount Vernon campus (main campus), Whidbey Island campus in Oak Harbor, Marine Technology Center in Anacortes, San Juan Center in Friday Harbor, and Cardinal Craft Brewing Academy in Burlington. SVC is committed to meeting students where they are and providing a learning environment that reflects our core themes of equity in access, achievement, and community.

The next President of SVC will have proven experience in overseeing multiple college sites and instructional and service delivery systems, engaging in data driven decision making, budgeting and finance that supports the college's strategic plan and successful resource development experience, including direct fundraising experience, working with a college foundation, grant development, and legislative relations at the state and federal level. With demonstrated leadership in advancing equity and social justice by promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout an institution of higher education, the next President will show success in recruiting, hiring, and retaining a diverse workforce, as well as experience working with unions, including an understanding and commitment to interest-based bargaining. The next President will also ensure the completion of the College's long-term strategy to become a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and build upon and complete the College's successful Student Achievement Strategy, with a continued focus on equitable outcomes. The President will also be able to apply insights gained during pandemic restrictions to improve and expand delivery systems for instruction and student services and to continue to increase educational opportunities in transfer, workforce, and basic education for adults and community/continuing education to address regional workforce needs.
