Position Summary:
Job Summary To inspect, repair, maintain, and keep in good working condition, all mechanical, lighting, and electrical equipment on campus.
Specific Responsibilities
- Maintain and exercise emergency generators.
- Repair and replace indoor and outdoor lighting, receptacle
circuits, air handling equipment, cooking equipment and circuits,
fans, motors, blowers, controllers, contactors, telephone equipment
and circuits, electric carts, transformers, chargers, sound
equipment, electric heating, high voltage wiring and associated
equipment, install conduit and wiring indoors and outdoors,
fabricate forms to pour cement for outdoor light standards.
- Construct new lighting circuits in offices and various campus
units. Perform periodic inspection of motors, switchboards,
circuits, and other equipment as a matter of preventative
maintenance.
- Test and maintain fire alarm and emergency light systems on
assigned schedule.
- Safeguard utility services and facilities at various times
while on duty and promptly report any unusual circumstances to the
foreman or supervisor.
- Understand and use operation manuals, blueprints, and work
orders.
- Understand and follow all safety rules. Maintain a safe,
healthy, and environmentally sound workplace demonstrated by
following good housekeeping practices, notifying supervisors of
potential hazards, adhering to OSHA standards and other safe
practice procedures, and being an example for other staff regarding
safe equipment use.
Contributes to the overall success of facilities management and the university by performing other duties and responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesKnowledge of and ability to safely use equipment including but not limited to electric meters, drill press, grinders (bench), forklift, carts, hand tools, welder, table saw, trucks, ladders (step and extension), hand-held electric tools, oxygen/acetylene torch, loader, and vans. Education High school diploma or equivalent required. ExperienceTwo years of experience in related field required. Additional Requirements
This position requires a valid driver’s license, and the ability to drive and qualify under the university’s insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle. Physical DemandWalking, lifting, climbing ladders and scaffolds, and digging.
