The Department of History at Vassar College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in African American History beginning August 2022.

Position Description
Area of research in African American history is open; 19th or 20th century preferred. We encourage candidates whose work focuses on women, gender, and/or LGBTQ+ history to apply. Preference will be given to candidates interested in teaching a topically and chronologicallybroad set of courses and dedicated to forging cross-disciplinary conversations with faculty in Africana Studies and Vassar's other multidisciplinary programs, such as Women's Studies. Teaching load in the first year is four courses; after that it is four courses plus a tutorial-style“intensive,” which may include supervision of senior theses.

Candidates must have the Ph.D. in History or related field in hand at the start of employment.
