Centenary College of Louisiana invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Physics Department beginning August 2022.

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarship in physics, are deeply committed to teaching in a liberal arts environment, and will direct an active undergraduate research program. While any area of physics may be considered, candidates with a background in experimental optics, biophysics, or data science/informatics will be given priority consideration.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching general physics courses required of all science majors, and upper-level courses for Centenary’s robust physics minor and dual-degree program in engineering. The candidate will also be expected to recruit physics and pre-engineering students, with the goal of reestablishing physics as a major at Centenary. Through teaching and advising, the successful candidate will support student success in physics, engineering, geophysics, and biophysics career pathways. The candidate will also participate in emerging interdisciplinary working groups in computational studies/complex systems or data science/informatics. A Ph.D. in an appropriate field from an accredited institution is required before starting (though ABD candidates will be considered). Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Physics Department has a well-equipped facility, and opportunities for collaborative research exist both on campus and at the nearby Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. There are excellent funding opportunities, and the College has a high success rate in securing funds for teaching and research.

Centenary College of Louisiana is a selective, residential, national liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1825, it is the oldest chartered liberal arts college west of the Mississippi river and is a member of the Associated Colleges of the South.
