Summary
The BESt Healthcare Institute is in its 14th year of a collaborative partnership between Barnes Jewish Hospital, Express Scripts, and the University of Health Sciences in Pharmacy in St. Louis. The mission of the program is to prepare underrepresented racial minority students for future health careers. The program is seeking to hire a director responsible for leading the daily operations of the BESt Healthcare Institute program, working collaboratively with internal and external partners, and identifying and securing grant funding to support the BESt program pipeline efforts. This role operates remotely with the exception of the months May-July during program preparation and implementation. This grant-funded position reports to the BESt program executive leadership team that includes a representative from each of the program partners.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Pipeline Programming
  • Manage programmatic infrastructure of the BESt Healthcare Institute programming at UHSP
  • Work year-round on the planning and recruitment of students
  • Complete high school visits in support of BESt student recruitment efforts
  • Develop, administer, and analyze programmatic assessments and data. Track program key performance indicators to analyze the successful completion of both short and long term goals and develop annual report.
  • Hire, train, and support all programmatic staff including instructors, interns, and Team Mentors Resident Assistants (TMRAs) in collaboration with BESt program executive leadership team
  • Plan and execute programmatic components such year-round ACT test preparation, courses, meals, social activities, etc.
  • Collaborate with external partners to plan and deliver healthcare experiences for participants
  • Develop and implement service projects focused on ending health disparities
  • Execute the strategic vision of the board of directors
  • Maintain agreements of understanding for the partner organizations
  • Identify, secure, and renew grant-funded applications to support BESt
  • Oversee and manage program budget and ensure grant compliance
  • Develop and execute a BESt Ambassador program for existing and/or previous program participants
  • Deliver virtual and traditional on-campus and off-campus presentations about pipeline programs
  • Research best-practices on pipeline programming
  • Assist in leading the on-site summer program including meetings, scheduling staff, planning activities, being on-call, communicating with leadership team and support staff to ensure daily tasks are executed
  • Lead regular staff meetings, communicate with program directors about the development of staff, TMRAs, and students.
  • Provide leadership in cases of urgency or emergency in alignment protocols
  • Develop and disseminate program communications with students/parents/alum through multiple platforms.
  • Oversee the development of marketing tools for the program including but not limited to program website, flyers, email communications, participant newsletters, etc.

  • Underrepresented Student Recruitment
  • Coordinate processes and support the development of programming at community-based organizations that supports preparation of pre-college student populations racially underrepresented in health education and careers.
  • Maintain a student information database for program participants
  • Provide advisement and programmatic support for BESt high school program graduates who are in college including the UHSP BESt Scholars and programs at other universities.

  • Qualifications
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree
  • Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated organization and project management skills
  • Ability to present effectively to small and large groups
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Able to address multiple tasks simultaneously and work under tight deadlines
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Proficient in computer skills and use of presentation software

  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters degree in higher education, college student affairs personnel, or a similar field
  • At least 2 years of experience in higher education or college access program
  • Knowledge of pre-college programs, student recruitment, and admission standards
  • Grant writing and research experience
  • Motivational speaking and workshop facilitation skills
