Development Coordinator

General Description:

The Development Coordinator (Events) manages events for Carey Business School Development and Alumni Relations and reports to the Director of Alumni Relations. Responsibilities include designing, planning and executing events; briefing school leaders and participants; tracking attendance; analyzing the results and adjusting future plans to optimize results; and maintaining data in ALADIN, the Development and Alumni Relations database.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute approximately 50 events per year on a national and occasionally international basis with the aim of engaging alumni and others in the mission of Carey Business School.
  • Work with DAR team to build a calendar of events for the year that maximizes impact within the limitations of staffing and budgets.
  • Research and provide recommendations for venues, menus, entertainment and décor options for all events.
  • Identify, select and negotiate with event vendors and on-site staff and maintain budget.
  • Draft, edit, format, and prepare event materials including invitations, programs, talking points and briefings.
  • Staff events by leading set-up, registration, greetings and tear-down. Occasionally travel to manage events.
  • Participate in event de-briefings, reconcile budget, record attendance rate and execute event follow-up.
  • Maintain donor records to ensure that critical donor information, visit updates and stewardship data is reflected in the development database.
  • Provide database reports to internal and external customers and regularly update records.
  • Collaborate with Campaign Operations to reconcile and process event invoices.
  • Draft, proofread, edit, and send correspondence on behalf of Development and Alumni Relations.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of development and alumni relations at Johns Hopkins.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Three years related experience required.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience managing events required.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
