Position Overview:

Under the general direction of the Director of IT Planning & Engagement, the Manager of the Central Tech Store manages all general operations of the Central Tech Store which supports the technology needs of students, faculty, and staff at the University of Central Oklahoma. In this role, you will be responsible for developing marketing and communications plans for programs and services based on market trends in the Higher Education retail and technology industry while understanding forthcoming initiatives and monitoring what competitors are doing. Market merchandise by studying advertising, sales promotion and display plans; analyzing operating and financial statements for profitability ratios. Provide overall direction to internal areas. Helps with solutions to problems that may arise in an expeditious, efficient, and timely manner. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of the University of Central Oklahoma.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Performs and/or oversees all aspects of Store operations and financial performance. Communicates and fosters professional relationships with customers (faculty, staff, students), committees and departments. Coordinates with other OIT departments for integration and collaboration. Attends all OIT Management Meetings, communicates on business performance, new initiatives and other pertinent issues. Performs associated manager functions.
  • Manages customer service delivery and profitability, which includes maintaining and motivating a team to increase sales and ensure efficiency, preparing reports and records of activities and ensuring progress is being made toward objectives, and analyzing sales figures and forecasts future sales volumes to maximize profits. Organizes special promotions, displays and events.
  • Manages stock levels and makes key decisions about stock control. Processes and replenishes merchandise, monitors floor stock, and housekeeping.
  • Manages and may perform floor moves, merchandising, display maintenance. . Ensures compliance with retail, distributor and authorized service provider agreements.
  • Establishes and enforces store policies in alignment with university policies. Maintain the stability and reputation of the store by complying with legal requirements. Ensures standards for quality, customer service, and health and safety are met.
  • Responds to customer needs and initiates changes to improve store operations (e.g., revising opening hours to ensure effective competition, etc.). Tours sales floor regularly, talks to colleagues and customers, and identifies or resolves urgent issues.
  • Manages staffing needs including determining staff levels, interviewing potential staff, conducting performance evaluations as well as providing or organizing training and development to meet store standards. Develops and coordinates staff schedules to always ensure proper staffing.
  • Creates and maintains documentation including diagrams, operational and support procedures. Collaborates with Technology Resource Center trainers and support staff to create training modules and deliver scheduled and just-in-time training opportunities.
  • Continually updates skills and knowledge relative to the position and the technology industry.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results. 5+ years of retail management experience with leading planning, including program development and innovation, program prioritization, and assessment. Appropriate professional accomplishments and credentials.

Qualifications Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in retail management, marketing, business studies, accounting or finance. Retail experience in technology sales and service industry. Higher Education retail management experience is preferred but not required.

Apple Product Professional status.

Flexibility to meet change head-on. Possesses an understanding of technological trends and uses this knowledge to bring solutions to the business unit to enhance the enterprise's competitive edge.

Must possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, disseminate, and present significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users. Ability to facilitate team interaction and client meetings effectively. Ability to work independently or with specialized groups and maintain a courteous attitude in dealing with students, faculty, and staff. Manage and prioritize work effectively with minimal supervision. Proficient with Microsoft Office Professional. Continually updates skills and knowledge relative to the position and the technology industry. Adheres to and complies with UCO’s shared values and the Office of Information Technology’s Code of Ethics. This position is on-call 24x7x365 and requires the successful candidate to have high-speed internet access to their residence and maintain a smartphone on which to receive telephone calls, email, SMS messages from servers and authorized OIT personnel.
