Community Partner and Adult Learner Liaison

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 68,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.

In 2020, CCC launched “Our Path Forward,” outlining a 5-year strategic plan to expand access for adult learners to our many program offerings to increase economic mobility across our Chicago communities. In partnership with local Community Partners, CCC seeks to provide prospective adult learners, identified as any individual not directly transitioning to CCC from high school, a welcoming environment where they can easily access needed information and resources and receive personalized assistance as they move through the enrollment process. Additionally, CCC seeks to meet the complex needs of adult learners to support retention, persistence, and academic success, leveraging district-wide and community resources to support stability and deepen safety nets.

Reporting to the District Director of Strategic Initiatives, a Community Partner and Adult Learner Liaison plays a critical role in the advancement of CCC’s Our Path Forward strategic initiative and the development of an inaugural “Community Ambassador and Adult Learner Navigator” program. Accountable for implementing strategy and operationalizing processes providing the framework for CCC to connect with and support adult learners through the leveraging of community partnerships for initial outreach, identification, and recruitment of targeted prospective student population of adult learners.

A Community Partner and Adult Learner Liaison functions in a highly collaborative role, with a focus on maintaining positive working relationships with community partners; training and engaging community partners serving as CCC designees and first point of contact with prospective adult learners; and working collaboratively with admissions, advising, and student services staff at the campuses in the design and implementation of referral processes that ensure a warm hand off of prospective adult learner students between community partners and CCC staff.

Community Partner and Adult Learner Liaison positions must travel on a regular basis to community sites and campuses, attend regular team meetings, and CCC Student Service team meetings to stay fully aware of updates. Availability to work some evenings and weekends is required. Performs related duties as required.

Your Responsibilities
  • Works with the Office of Community and Legislative Affairs in maintaining and expanding community and faith-based organizational partnerships for participation in the Our Path Forward program.
  • Provides needed support to community partners to ensure they are equipped to recruit, hire, and train community ambassadors that are fully informed and have access to up-to-date information about CCC’s educational programs and student support services.
  • Works closely with the Director of Strategic Initiatives to guide strategy and operationalize holistic support for adult learners in alignment with Our Path Forward framework, including identifying service gaps and developing strategies and processes to address them.
  • Monitors on-going operations with community partners to ensure fidelity of implementation and to support ongoing training of community ambassadors.
  • Captures strategic insights from the field and implements operational changes to strengthen and improve processes and increase level of outreach and recruitment of adult learners.
  • Serves as a key point of contact to community ambassadors and supports their training, ensuring ambassadors are knowledgeable about CCC degree and certificate programs and student support services, career pathways, specialized programs such as Fresh Start, and enrollment processes.
  • Provides opportunities that create a welcoming, safe, and personalized connection for adult learners at CCC; works with key stakeholder in the implementation of orientation programs designed to address concerns and issues specific to the adult learner population.
  • Creates and coordinates ongoing opportunities for adult learners to connect through affinity groups and by flagging specific resources that are available to sub-groups of adult learners, I.e., parents.
  • Works collaboratively with colleges’ Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid, First Year Experience Director, and other key stakeholders to create a seamless transition from application through enrollment and registration process for adult learners.
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree preferred
  • Three years of work experience in student services, preferably at a community college
  • At least one year of work experience at a community organization working with adults preferred
  • Bilingual skills are a plus
  • A valid State of Illinois driver’s license
  • Must be able to travel frequently to and between CCC campuses and to meet with community partner organizations
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends
  • Passion for supporting students, especially adult learners
  • Demonstrates strong relationship building skills
  • Demonstrates attention to detail, initiative, dependability, and commitment to customer service
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and innovate
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of CCC academic programs and pathways, enrollment procedures, financial aid preferred
  • Knowledge of labor market data for relevant career programs preferred
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment
  • Moderate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
