ABOUT POMONA COLLEGE: Located near Los Angeles, California, Pomona College is widely regarded as one of the nation's premier liberal arts colleges. JOB PURPOSE: The Major Gift Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies for securing philanthropic support from a portfolio of approximately 125 major and principal gift prospects. The Major Gift Officer will support the Benton Museum of Art and other college and campaign priorities, as assigned, in the arts that include music, theater, and dance. The Major Gift Officer will be responsible for regional fundraising duties through a donor centric model of sustained fundraising success. The Major Gift Officer will support new ideas, encourage interaction and teamwork, and be fully integrated in preparation for the most aspirational and comprehensive capital campaign in the history of the College.
Candidates must have the ability to build productive relationships with a variety of constituents, including alumni, parents, and friends of the College. Demonstrated experience cultivating and solicitating major gifts is essential, and campaign experience is highly desirable. The officer must demonstrate familiarity with a variety of fundraising concepts and demonstrate a command of industry standards and procedures. The position requires judgment and ability to act independently to accomplish annual goals while building a sustainable donor pipeline.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications,
marketing, journalism, business administration, or a liberal arts
field.
Experience: Six years demonstrable experience in
the areas of major gifts fundraising in a medium to large
development operation with a diverse portfolio of prospects
preferred. Experience in complex nonprofit organizations. A record
of successfully soliciting and closing six and seven figure gifts.
Fundraising experience in the arts or museums is strongly
preferred, as is working in a campaign environment.
Experience in an academic setting is strongly preferred, as is working in a campaign environment.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this
full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.
Holiday, weekend, and evening work hours will be required. Travel
will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the
College or division.
