Situated just blocks away from the world's greatest hospitality laboratory—the Las Vegas Strip—the Harrah College of Hospitality enjoys unparalleled access to the hotels and resorts that are shaping the industry. Consistently ranked among the top five hospitality programs in the world, the College provides students with the theoretical and practical foundation needed to succeed in the competitive hospitality field. Faculty members are internationally-renowned, and alumni consist of some of the most influential leaders in the industry, with graduates overseeing major hotel brands, popular restaurants, event firms, and Fortune 500 companies.

The College offers a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management with concentrations in Event Design and Management, Gaming Management, Hospitality Beverage Management, Human Resource Management, Innovative Restaurant Management, and PGA Golf Management; an Executive Master of Hospitality Administration; a Master of Science in Hotel Administration; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Hospitality Administration. In addition, the College offers two dual degrees: a Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Hotel Administration; and a Master of Science in Hotel Administration and Master of Science in Information Management Systems.

In the Spring of 2020, the College enrolled 1,872 undergraduate students, 151 graduate students (70 MHA, 54 HOA and dual programs, and 27 doctoral students). The College has approximately 42 full-time faculty members​ ​(including tenured, tenure track, faculty in residence, and lecturers), 9 classified staff, and 38 professional staff.​  In addition, in any given semester, there are approximately 14 part-time instructors.

ROLE of the POSITION

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas William F. Harrah College of Hospitality is conducting an open rank search for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track or tenured faculty in the department of Food, Beverage and Event Management commencing August 2022. Rank will be dependent upon education and experience as outlined below in the qualifications section.

 

The successful candidate will work on a strong and active research program with the potential for conferences and journal publications and external funding; teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students; and engage in department, college, and university service activities. This faculty member may be responsible for teaching courses in Cost Control, Event Management, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Expositions), Multi-Unit Restaurant Management, and/ or related classes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Ph.D. in Hospitality Management or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.

  • Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure-track): terminal degree and experience and research activity that is consistent with UNLV standards and aspirations
  • Associate/Professor (tenured): terminal degree and experience and research activity that is consistent with UNLV standards and aspirations

Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with a strong and active publication record, and a record of teaching that is current and consistent with UNLV standards and aspirations are preferred. Applicants are preferred to have an interest and expertise in cost control, event management, MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions, expositions), and/ or multi-unit restaurant management, followed by the ability to teach in one or more of these and related areas. The ideal candidate has experience in hospitality, business, or related industries.

 

SALARY RANGE

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
