Pre-College Liaison - Continuing Education - 17950



ATTENTION:

The Department of Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks a Pre-College Liaison (Compliance Specialist III, CP020).

This will be a fixed term annual appointment and reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon needs of the position, university funding and external forces.

JOB DETAILS:

The Precollege Liaison performs a wide range of executive duties in the implementation of policies and procedures involving minor on campus. The position requires the management of multiple priorities, strong attention to detail, knowledge of national trends in youth programming, child protection, and institutional liability involving minors. This person must also have effective communication skills, knowledge of university policies and procedures, and independent judgement, and sound decision making when it comes to protecting minors on campus. When authorized, the Precollege Liaison speaks/acts on the behalf campus leadership when addressing program accountability when said program poses an institutional integrity risk or risk to minors on campus. The position requires mastery of a broad set of competencies: event support and coordination, financial management, project management, policy formation, benchmarking of best practices regarding youth programs, national trainings in youth programming and policies, effective written and oral communication, organizational skills focusing on policy formation and data, time management, project management, and computer proficiency.

The liaison will also assist as needed with the operation of camps, clinics, and conferences on campus. This assistance includes both administrative tasks, such as assisting in monitoring financial and procurement requests, assisting with hiring of seasonal staff, and assisting with general camp operations such as camp registration.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Documented experience leading and training large groups of young adult and adult learners
  • Documented experience demonstrating organizational skills focusing policy creation and program data collection, time management and project management
Desired Characteristics:
  • Experience with management, budgets, and project planning
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices for youth programming nationwide
  • Knowledge of benchmarking, policy platforms, and program resources in youth programming across the US
  • Knowledge and/or membership with current youth protection organization
  • Understanding of UW-System Practices and Policies
  • Ability to communicate with various communities within the higher education setting
  • General understanding of FERPA and the Clery Act
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficiency with software applications, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Proficiency with Excel to track, reconcile, and provide reports regarding financial data
  • Ability to create and understand policy as in applies to minors on campus
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Assessment, Compliance and Oversight
  1. Performs in depth taxonomy assessments of what precollege and youth programs exist across campus. (ie conferences, camps, affiliated activities, field trips, individual lessons, internships, shadow experience, and more)
  2. Serves as primary liaison with institutional programs, departments and divisions associated with hosting minors on campus. (e.g. University Housing, Conference Services, Office of the Registrar, Risk Management, Student Recreational Services, and the Precollege Council.
  3. Maintains and manages youth activity data centrally
  4. Collaborates on System Youth Compliance Database Development
  5. Hosts Campus Wide Training on HR Practices that best serve minors on campus
  6. Performs quarterly audits of all precollege and youth programs associated with the institution
  7. Provides quarterly reports to the offices of Compliance, Risk Management, Deans, and Department heads in regard to better ways to support Precollege and Youth Programming on campus.
  8. Performs yearly audits all programs and processes to assure compliance with all UW-System policy
  9. Serves as the campus authority granting permission for all youth programming associated with UW Whitewater
Policy Implementation
  1. Conducts periodic reviews of current campus policies affecting minors on campus
  2. Implements needed changes to current UW policies involving minors involved in UW Programming based on UW-System updates, nationwide benchmarking of policies and best practices
  3. Oversight of Staff Training Mandates for all programs
  4. Joint policy oversight of policies documenting non employed youth serving staff
Provide Ongoing Training and Support
  1. Trains all programs on student data collection including but not limited to program registration, media release, permission to treat, transcripts and medical data
  2. Participates in regularly scheduled UW-System Precollege Council Meetings.
  3. Collaborate with other Precollege and Youth Programs to assess training gaps and needs.
  4. Periodic checks of understanding and training as implemented campus wide.
    1. Provides ongoing training for all precollege and youth programs through the Precollege Council
Support for Camps, Clinics, and Conferences
  1. Provide general support for youth programming at UW-Whitewater as needed.
  2. Assist in processing of season staff hiring
  3. Assist in budgetary monitoring and procurement
  4. Some evening and weekend hours may be required, especially in the summer season.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $54,000 - $60,000.
