Outreach Specialist - High School Equivalency Program

Columbia Basin College ('CBC' or the 'College') seeks a High School Equivalency Program (“HEP”) Outreach Specialist to lead, develop and coordinate student outreach and recruitment efforts for the HEP Program. The Outreach Specialist will also provide academic and career advising in order to enhance the success of students in the Program. This position will ensure target percentages for the HEP Program are met or exceeded. This position will report to the Director for HEP.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop, plan, coordinate and perform student outreach and recruitment activities, including use of technologies;
  • Conduct outreach activities and actively recruit students for the HEP Program;
  • Proactively engage students in HEP related programs to ensure student success;
  • Maintain an aggressive media campaign in English and Spanish for outreach and recruitment purposes;
  • Ensure federal and state program goals and objectives are met;
  • Coordinate with the Director for HEP to determine student eligibility;
  • Utilize technology for outreach and recruitment purposes;
  • Coordinate eligibility assessments for prospective program participants;
  • Complete outreach & recruitment reports as needed;
  • Assist students with admission/registration process in academic and career advising, including student intake processes;
  • Organize student related information and the dissemination of student related information;
  • Work with the Director for HEP and other staff to implement the goals and objectives of the program, as established by the federal grant;
  • Collaborate with HEP staff to provide orientation/workshops pertaining to student success;
  • Communicate in English and Spanish both verbally and through written correspondence with prospective and current HEP students;
  • Work evenings and/or weekends as needed for community outreach and recruitment;
  • Coordinate classroom community guest speakers; and,
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • Two (2) years of experience in student recruitment and advising;
  • Two (2) years of experience working with migrant/seasonal farm workers and other English as a Second Language learners;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; and
  • Bilingual and bi-literate in English and Spanish.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Applicable experience in a High School Equivalency Program;
  • Knowledge of community college environment;
  • Understand the role of academic and career advising within program scope and the population it serves; and
  • Understand the role of outreach and recruitment within the program scope and population it serves.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time exempt position. The standard work hours will be Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; however, work hours may vary due to work demands and some evening and weekend work may be required. This position is overtime exempt.

WORKING CONDITIONS :
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including having the ability to move materials on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc. and travel between buildings on campus. Manual dexterity and coordination are required to operate equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.

Work environment includes office and other settings as appropriate. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises.
