Job Summary/Basic Function

An adjunct professor for the Department of Counselor Education & Family Studies will be responsible for the administration, facilitation, and teaching of classes of approx. 20-25 online students from around the country. This job entails daily internet interaction with students pursuing a graduate or doctoral degree in the fields of Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, and School Counseling.

Adjunct Professors will perform administrative tasks, interact with students through grading and interactive forums, and build relationships while under the supervision of Online Instructional Mentors.

Other responsibilities include:
-Teaching material from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned schedule to ensure student satisfaction.
-Assisting students in achieving completion of objectives and learning outcomes.
-Providing regular and timely feedback to students.
-Participating in school retention initiatives by maintaining productive contact with students and by contacting and offering assistance to absent students.
-Advising students in matters related to academics, attendance, and behaviors.
-Motivating students to actively participate in all aspect of the educational process.
-Maintaining and reporting student grades and attendance in accordance with university policies.
-Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in counseling or related field, preferably Counselor Education and Supervision.
  • Counseling licensure/certification such as NCC, LPC, or LMFT
  • Professional or clinical counseling experience
  • Candidates will demonstrate a knowledge and application of contemporary language and practices in counseling.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in counseling or related field from a CACREP accredited program.
  • Candidates should have some experience teaching in higher education with preference given to those who have taught in the online environment.
  • Experience in supervising practicum and internship counselor education students at the graduate level.
  • A strong professional identity as a counselor will be demonstrated through advanced credentialing, presentations, publications, and service to the profession.
