Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to oversee and manage the overall sound, content and programming of WNCU and to ensure that sound of the station is delivered with the upmost quality and protects the image of the station. The Program Director develops and/or selects some or all of the content that will broadcast on our main channel and HD channels. WNCU strives to create and make accessible diverse programming that reflects the communities the station serves. The Program Director plays a key role in this mission by working with the General Manager in designing and implementing WNCU's programming policies to conform to the station goals. These goals include engaging more North Carolinians of diverse backgrounds and perspectives with new content and demonstrating leadership and creativity in journalism and broadcast. Employee will produce and coordinate content and materials not only on all of WNCU's on-air platforms, but also our digital platforms (including social media and the web) utilizing talent, technology, research data and local and national programming based upon expertise in media as well as knowledge of the target demographic of the station. This employee shall supervise and manage all on-air announcers and schedule all on-air materials. Employee shall implement programming policies and procedures and communicate effectively to on-air talent and ensure they are implemented and carried out through monitoring of the station and airchecks. This position ensures that all content is accurate and in conformance with FCC rules and regulations in regards to noncommercial radio. This position requires management of the music programming as well research, analyzing data, reviewing, selecting and transferring music. Employee will be required to train and mentor students, as well as staff and volunteers.

Minimum Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience related to the area of assignment in a broadcast television, radio and emerging media environment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
This position requires demonstrated ability in coaching, music, news, management and exceptional broadcast journalism and production skills, including experience with music, news, and live music and talk programs. The program director will have a minimum of five years of experience in music, preferably jazz formatted, news and information programming, and experience supervising a music and news or broadcast production staff. Professional broadcast journalism experience at a full time music and news and information station is highly preferred. The Program Director will have a strong research and communications skills and understand the importance of disseminating research findings to a broad and diverse listening audience.
Leading candidates will have:
-Ten years of experience as a journalist or broadcast producer. (Will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience).
-Management and supervisory experience, with increasing responsibility in each successive position
-Experience with supervising public radio programming
-Considerable knowledge of radio broadcasting equipment, including digital editing, broadcast operating boards, phone screening systems and portable recording devices
-Exceptional knowledge of jazz and similar genres of music format
-Exceptional written and oral communication skills
-Familiarity with North Carolina, national and international issues is preferred
-Demonstrated ability to plan and meet deadlines, working with materials from a variety of sources and collaborators
-Experience with planning and executing on-air pledge drives
-Experience with planning and executing remote broadcasts
-Ability to interact effectively with colleagues
-Audience research and interpretation skills
