REPORTS TO: Grounds Manager
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs various grounds work on the College campus, including mowing and trimming grass, assisting with landscaping projects, and assisting with maintenance of the campus grounds.
2. Operates small equipment such as lawn mowers, blowers, edgers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers snow blowers, aerators, thatchers, weed eaters, and any other landscape-related power equipment.
3. Reports equipment needing repairs and performs minor adjustments/repairs on large equipment and mechanical maintenance on all types of handheld equipment.
4. Collects trash and recyclable material and polices the entire campus for trash and debris.
5. Assists with application of pesticides and fertilizer.
6. Assists with landscaping duties, including the installation, care and maintenance of trees/shrubbery, plants, etc. such as pruning, trimming, removal and planting; application of mulch and stone to plant beds; lawn maintenance and turf development duties including topdressing and seeding, aerothatching of turf and lawn areas; maintenance and renovations of athletic fields; and fall leave removal duties.
7. Assists with campus snow and ice removal operations. Operates some snow removed equipment, shovels exterior areas not assessable by machine, and applies ice treatment materials to address unsafe areas for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
8. Assists with the maintenance of grounds fixtures (benches, hydrants, signs, fences, hardscapes, etc.), walkways, and roadways located on campus including the power washing of building exteriors and campus infrastructure.
9. Assists with line painting on campus roadways, crosswalks, parking lots, and athletic fields.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Two years of experience in landscape work, grounds operations, and/or nursery experience
• Full understanding of most grounds related duties and can successfully perform or assist in all the principal responsibilities
• Ability to operate most departmental equipment
• Able to lift 80 lbs. and work in extreme weather conditions for the removal of snow/ice, storm damage, and flood cleanup as well as extreme heat conditions
• Valid New Jersey Driver’s License, with an ability to drive manual transmission
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• NJ Pesticide License 3A; 3B or ability to obtain
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
RETIREMENT PLAN: Pension Eligible
