ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

The College of Education is dedicated to: Preparing competent, caring, and committed professionals for Montana’s schools; Conducting socially significant research to improve the human condition; Providing community service aimed at improving the quality of life experienced by Montanans; and providing graduate education designed for the continuing development of professionals. Our faculty members are excellent teacher educators who are involved in research and partnerships with local and regional schools.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The College of Education, Department of Educational Theory and Practice at Montana State University Billings seeks applications for a tenure track position as Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate (Master’s level) P-12 social studies methods, education foundations, and educational law. Montana State University Billings offers both elementary and secondary teaching majors at the undergraduate and graduate level. This position would advise both graduate and undergraduate students. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong research and scholarship agenda appropriate for a  teaching-focused institution and enthusiasm for service to the university, the field, and the community.

We seek a candidate who shares our commitment to serving diverse student populations, inclusive education, and effective practices in teaching, including integration of appropriate technology. Applicants should be able to offer undergraduate and graduate courses designed for both in-person and online modalities. Candidates should have a strong grasp of course design, effective teaching strategies, experience working with a diverse student population, and a minimum of 3 years of teaching in P-12 public-school settings.

Candidates should also offer evidence of their research agenda and the capacity to engage with colleagues in collaborative work and projects. Candidates are encouraged to identify their strengths and/or experiences in the area(s) of advising, service, and culturally sustaining/revitalizing pedagogy.

EMPLOYMENT START DATE: Fall semester August 2022

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with other faculty, including as a department liaison for Secondary Social Studies Broad Field Majors.
  • Advise students pursuing a major in Social Studies Broad-Field Teaching Option.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate education courses online and face to face.
  • Participate with college and department faculty in improving education instruction through continuous quality assessment.
  • Maintain evidence of active scholarship.
  • Provide service to campus and community. Faculty members under review will participate in and contribute to departmental, college, and university accreditation efforts.
  • Serve on college and university committees and attend meetings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Hold a doctorate or ABD in a field related to teacher education;
  • Have a minimum of three years of teaching in P-12 public-school settings;
  • Be familiar with supporting students in using the common core aligned state standards;
  • Have a record of excellence in teaching through effective online and face to face teaching strategies;
  • Evidence of collaborative work with colleagues;
  • Evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusivity;
  • Have a record of, or potential for, scholarly activity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Exemplary experience teaching at the university level in both online and face to face courses;
  • Experience in designing and teaching in online, hybrid/blended, or HyFlex modalities;
  • Evidence of implementing effective course and program design principles;
  • Experience working with a diverse range of adult and young adult learners; 
  • Experience supervising teacher candidates; 
  • Experience with CAEP accreditation;
  • Experience with grant writing.
