Job Description

The Career Development Center Director provides strategic leadership and direction for the Career Development Center. The Director is expected to engage students in a holistic career program that equally focuses on student career readiness, student career development, and employer relations. The Director will engage students in career programming at all classification levels; lead campus efforts reading the collection and dissemination of graduating students initial career outcomes; develop innovative approaches to prepare students and alumni for a global marketplace; collaborate with academic units to provide information to students choosing a career, preparing for internships and other applied learning activities; and, actively cultivate and steward relationships with employer for internships and post-graduation careers for students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
  • Provides overall management and direction for the Career Development Center including the organization structure, managing fiscal budgets, and supervising the Coordinator of Career Development and student career mentors.
  • Compile and analyze strategic assessment data for the use in performance-based initiatives, in alignment with standards and protocol distributed by the National Association of Colleges and Employer ( NACE ).
  • Provides innovative approaches for networking, internships, and other career-based applied learning experiences.
  • Creates a structure for career fairs, on-campus recruitment for business, opportunities for etiquette dinners, and interviewing experiences.
  • Fosters relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders that leads to opportunities for Missouri Western students and alumni to experience strong part-time positions and internships while still attending school and that lead to full-time position post-graduation.
  • Engage students in career readiness and exploration experiences, including career coaching, career assessment tools and personality inventories, and, working closely with academic affairs and student success and advising, connecting them with appropriate academic majors and academic departments that lead to those identified careers.
  • Keep excellent records of all activities of the Center and of the employer network and provide end-of-year reports as required as well as reports as requested by the Assistant Vice President/Dean of Students (primary supervisor).
  • Engage students in programs, initiatives, events, and activities at all aspects of their career (first-year through graduating student) to promote career readiness and career development.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in student personnel/student development, higher education administration, career counseling, business or related field;
  • 3-5 years of experience working in higher education;
  • And experience supervising staff (full-time, graduate, or undergraduate students)

or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Demands

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
