Position Summary

The UB Center for Urban Studies (the Center), housed within the UB Community Health Equity Research Institute and the UB School of Architecture and Planning, is seeking a dynamic Program Assistant to facilitate all aspects of the Center’s activities. The Center focuses on health and built environment issues, and is a national leader in studying underdeveloped neighborhoods of color. It is an anti-racist institution that focuses on social injustice issues.

The Program Assistant will play a significant role in the administration, communications, and project management at the Center for Urban Studies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

· Manage the director’s calendar and schedule, including making travel arrangements and communicating with various stakeholders.
· Oversee the Center’s website and social media. This activity includes maintaining and developing the Center website, ListServe, and other social media.
· Communicate with various publics, both internal and external.
· Participate on Center research teams and provide research support on varied activities.
· Manage and lead neighborhood development projects, when appropriate.
· Write and edit reports, including layout and design.

The incumbent must be an energetic person who is aquick study. The person must be capable of working outside their comfort zone, love challenges, and be willing to work on projects where they may have limited knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. The applicant must learn quickly, problem-solve, be well-organized, and be capable of completing tasks on time. They must also be capable of working with a diverse group of individuals from various disciplines and experiences. The position requires solid writing and oral communications skills. Research skills, quantitative analysis, graphic design, or G.I.S. skills are desirable but not required.

Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in urban studies, urban planning, or a related field.
· Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals from a variety of disciplines, experiences, and philosophical outlooks.
· Effective problem solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

· MUP or MA in related field.
· At least 1 year of experience in a high-volume office environment.
· Prior experience editing documents and presentations in a professional setting, including experience with the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat is preferred.
· Research, quantitative, G.I.S. skills, layout, and design skills are desirable but not required.
· Proven leadership skills.
